Our Lady of Victory School Principal Jim Hoy accepts a plaque recognizing the new JoAnn Taricani Memorial Endowment from ICF CEO Chris Ringkamp at a recent school mass.

JoAnn Taricani was a member of Our Lady of Victory Parish in State College, PA, during her childhood and youth. She would go on to earn her Master and Doctorate degrees from the University of Pennsylvania. She arrived at the University of Washington, Seattle, Washington, in 1980 where she would become a longtime Music History professor in the School of Music. In July of 2020, she advanced to become the Director of the UW School of Music.

Along with her research and performance activities on the School of Music faculty, Professor Taricani’s service to the UW community included her ongoing work on budget committees, facilities planning, and membership on the Board of Directors at UW Medicine. She had lobbied for all University of Washington faculty at the State Legislature, elected by the Faculty Senate as the faculty legislative representative for a number of legislative sessions. She had also served as the special counsel to the President of the University of Michigan, working on national issues of higher education, including the 2003 U.S. Supreme Court case on affirmative action in admissions.

To commemorate JoAnn’s passion for music and to honor her Catholic faith, the Taricani Family established the Jo Ann Taricani Memorial Endowment Fund shortly after her passing in February 2022.  Annual distributions from the endowment will benefit Our Lady of Victory School’s music program (60%) and the Parish’s music ministry (40%).

Charitable gifts in any amount in memory of JoAnn or in support of the school and parish music initiatives may be made at any time to the Independent Catholic Foundation, 3618 Fifth Avenue, Suite 1, Altoona, PA 16602. Please include a note designating the gift to this endowment.

The Independent Catholic Foundation is a nonprofit public charity managing 270 permanent endowments that provide a perpetual income stream to parishes, schools, cemeteries, religious orders, ministries, and service organizations. ICF is the only charitable foundation in Central Pennsylvania that invests its entire endowment portfolio according to the ethical, moral, and social teachings of the Catholic Church.
